West of England Works - Building Better Opportunities

Funded by the Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund, our West of England Works team can offer you tailored help to get you into training or employment. The project offers the following –

–              Helping those who are not currently working and furthest from the job market into work, training and further education

–              1-1 ongoing help and support on a long-term basis, allowing time for in-depth work

–              Sessions offered during the week at Barton Hill Settlement, in your home or a location local to you

–              Led by you – co-design is central to the work we do with you

–              Sessions focus on recognising your skills and developing them

–              Encouraging you to reach your aspirations, not a ‘quick fix’

–              Helping you overcome any barriers

–              Encouraging you to take opportunities to join in and/or lead community peer projects

–              Opportunities to volunteer at local organisations including different projects and teams here

–              Benefits entitlement checks and ‘Better off’ calculations

–              Financial capability support including budgeting and money saving skills

–              Other sessions and training, tailored to you, including –

CV and job applications; Interviewing techniques; Confidence building; Confidence in Maths, English and IT; Office & IT skills; Expectations at work; Communication skills; Respecting others at work and recognising boundaries

–              Childcare support at the Settlement and local crèches

–              Access to Barton Hill Settlement’s wider services including –

Family support, childcare, specialist legal advice service, starting your own business with BRAVE,  job club, WEA courses, Lunch Clubs, Shopping Clubs, Bristol Credit Union, Fruit & Vegetable Sales, Summer Activities including Summer Camp and community events

–              Working with Bristol Work Zones and other specialist partners to develop employment opportunities

–              A variety of expenses can be covered including travel and childcare
