Family Support Services –

The Family Centre and SPAN provide free services to families and children in Barton Hill and the surrounding areas.

We are open all year round although the programme changes during school holidays. The holiday programme can be found on this page during  school closures.

Room 2 – Book Area

We have been awarded –

The Bristol Quality Standard for Health Certificate. We focussed on 2 areas of health – smoke free environments and childood immunisation. A big thank you to the parents for sharing their ideas and information with us to help us achieve this award.

What to expect at the family ‘stay and play’ sessions –

Lots of tactile play, including paint, dough, stories, singing, and outside activities in our large secure garden.  There’s tea/coffee for the adults, and snack time for the children – donations of fruit always welcome.

Times and days of all free parent/child family ‘stay and play’ sessions for children under five during school term-times:                  

 Monday                9.30-11.30am      –       Family drop in – Free-play

Tuesday                 1.00 -3.00pm      –       Family drop in – Story Telling and singing

Wednesday           1.00 -3.00pm     –        Family drop in – babies 0-23 months only, this is a quieter session for our youngest babies and children.

Thursday               9.30 – 11.30am   –       Family Drop In – Tactile play & crafts

Thursday               1.00 – 2.45pm    –       Parents in Partnership Group & free Crèche.  All welcome. Please book a crèche place

Parents in Partnership Drop-in – every  Thursday  1pm-2.45 pm term time with Wendy our Adult Group Worker

Parent Drop-in relax, meet other parents for a cup of tea/coffee while your child goes into our Crèche. We hold discussions on all topics and review services you have accessed.

Other Family Services

If you would like a home visit –

The Family Centre has an Outreach Worker, Joy Skinner. Joy can visit new families, either in your home or at a place convenient to you.  Joy will explain the Children’s Centre services we offer and can signpost to other support services if necessary.

If you know anyone with children who would benefit from a visit, please contact Joy, on 0117 955 6971, ext. 167, for further information.

World Book Day – March 1st

We all had a lovely time on World Book Day. We listened to the story of The Hungry Caterpillar acted out by Fran. We enjoyed eating caterpillar cakes

Chinese New Year Celebration

The parents/carers and children took part in a celebration of  Chinese New Year – The Year of the Dog. We enjoyed Chinese food, a Chinese story and songs led by our Chinese parents and the children’s dragon dance.

We work in partnership with St Philip’s Marsh Nursery School and Cashmore Early Years Centre, and have links with the Wellspring Healthy Living Centre.
