Family Centre

The Family Centre provides services to families and children in Barton Hill and the surrounding areas. We work in partnership with St Philip’s Marsh Nursery School and Cashmore Early Years Centre, and have links with the Wellspring Healthy Living Centre.

The Family Centre is proud to have been awarded the “Bristol Standard Quality Improvement for Birth to Five” certificate.

Family Centre Garden wins Gold Award in Bristol in Bloom Competition

This is the citation we received from the organisers of the Bristol in Bloom competition, along with a Gold Award celebrating our achievements. We are looking forward to new challenges next year.

Barton Hill Family Centre ~ 81% Gold

The enthusiasm of the staff, along with the involvement of the parents, has made this a very successful ‘garden’ project. Everything was up-cycled, donated or built on site ~ innovative ideas and excellent use of space means the children have access to a wide variety of learning experiences.

A delightful oasis in a built up inner city space.

Family Centre Activities (2017 summer holidays)

Family Centre Activities (Term-time)

Here’s what happens in the Family Centre each day, during term time. There is no charge for any of these activities. The sessions are for any parent, carer, grandparent, childminder etc. with children under 5 years, although some sessions are for specific groups of people, as indicated below.

All activities are FREE for parents, carers, grandparents, childminders and children.

Family Drop-In Sessions

Lots of messy play, including paint, dough, stories, singing, and outside activities in our large secure garden. We take lots of photos and record the children having a lovely time, enjoying the learning experiences on offer to them. There’s tea/coffee, and snack time for the children—donations of fruit welcome. ALL WELCOME!

Other Services and Activities

Outreach

The Family Centre has two Outreach Workers, Joy Skinner and Monika Rosinska (who’s a Polish speaker). They can visit new families, either in your home or at a place convenient to you. They will explain the services we offer across the Barton Hill Children’s Centre area.

If you know anyone with children who would benefit from a visit, please contact Joy or Monika, on 0117 955 6971, ext. 167, for further information.

Visiting oral health worker

On Thursday March 24 between 9:30 and 11:30, an oral health worker will be visiting the Family Centre. Come along to get advice and information around oral health in young children.

Newsletter

Here is a copy of the Family Centre’s leaflet about mental health, particularly for the parents of young children. It contains contact details for many useful local organisations.
